My daughter got married this weekend and I’m just getting back to reality now. Believe me, my head is still in the clouds, my feet haven’t touched down and my powers of concentration are, well, let’s just say that “powers of concentration” is a misnomer. There is nothing powerful about my brain right now. It’s floating in beautiful memories of my beautiful daughter as she walked down the aisle to her future with her handsome husband. I will share a few photos when the kids get back from their honeymoon. In the meantime, I need a massage.
My two daughters were home for several days before the wedding and you know how it goes. Stress ruled those days and after hours of changing around the table seatings and table placements; meetings with the caterer, florist, wedding planner, etc., etc., my husband surprised the girls with appointments for massages. He asked if I wanted one. I didn’t. I’ve never had a massage. I don’t know what type of massage to get. I have a bad back and, although friends insist that a massage will help, I’m a little afraid to let anyone touch my lower back, let alone knead and rub it. Massage is one of the modalities my chiropractor uses to ease stress and help his patients with bad backs but I am still afraid to jump onto that massage table. My girls came back from their massages relaxed and feeling great and ready to tackle any other pre-wedding day surprises that popped up. I remained tense and stressed and nervous. I’m not saying that massage is the answer to all that ails you but I have many friends who swear by it. Studies show that massage eases muscle aches and pains, reduces stress and anxiety, counteracts the detriments to our muscles caused by sitting at a desk all day, boosts immunity and can help us get a good night’s sleep. It’s also said to cure headaches and lower blood pressure. I may have to rethink my reasons for not getting a massage. They pale in comparison to massage’s benefits. (Check with your doctor before you get a massage to see if you have any reasons not to indulge. Severe osteoporosis is one.)
But what kind of massage is right for you? Here’s a handy little infographic (I LOVE info graphics!) that will help you decide.

Mel, Congratulations on your family happiness. Wishing you all everlasting joy and love.
About more earthly matters, I adored your latest post, as always. I haven’t had a massage in over a decade. I always opt for facials when time is limited. But Im treating myself and your terrific, in-depth post is the reason why. Thank you for the suggestion!
Thank you so much, Sar! xoxo
