A huge thank you to Susan Newman of Frogs Are Green for nominating EverBeautiful for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Read more about Susan and Frogs Are Green later in this post …
As part of The Very Inspiring Blogger Award, I’ve been asked to do following:
- Display the award on your blog
- Link back to the person who nominated you
- State 7 things about yourself
- Nominate 15 bloggers, link to them, and notify them about their nominations
So here goes … Seven facts you didn’t know about me:
1. Keeping with the green theme, a la Frogs Are Green, I am an inveterate tree-hugger and became conscious of environmental issues as a young girl. I celebrate Earth Day every day and am aware of/frightened by/sometimes encouraged by the fact that we control our environmental future that our children will inherit. I hope we do right by it – and them.
2. I do cat rescue, i.e., TNR or trap, neuter, release. I’ve got the first two perfected but the third one eludes me. Therefore, I am a Cat Lady – and proud of it.
3. I am a political junkie and look forward to watching Election Day returns like others look forward to watching the Oscars. I will stay up all night watching, eating popcorn and yelling at the TV. Fortunately, my husband shares this passion.
4. If I wasn’t a writer, I’d be a singer, or a veterinarian, or a photographer or an archeologist. My favorite courses in college were anything to do with Earth Science, Archeology and Paleontology. My love for all things geological began in childhood and every year I’d write my summer book report on “The Stone Age,” or “The Bronze Age,” or “The Iron Age.” You get the point. I still devour articles, magazines and books on those subjects.
5. As much as I love animals, I am afraid of horses. I don’t know why.
6. I love my daughters more than anything in the world and I am so proud of them. I take no credit for who they are, however. I always said that their successes are their own just as their mistakes are theirs to make and correct. I wholeheartedly believe that they have influenced me far more than I have influenced them.
7. I’m shy. Actually, I’m very shy – but most people who meet me would never suspect it. Only my very closest friends and family members know this to be true.

Blogger awards are a great way to spread the word about blogs that you enjoy. We can all use a bit of help getting the word out. (To my nominated bloggers: If I’ve nominated you and you’d rather not participate, that’s fine, but please consider giving a shout-out for some of the blogs you follow. Those bloggers will appreciate your support. Thanks, Melody)
And now, more about Susan Newman and Frogs Are Green because she deserves a shoutout …
Frogs Are Green is an organization that’s devoted to keeping the planet green and healthy for all that (and who, so that includes us) inhabit it. The Frogs Are Green blog is a photo- and fact-filled site with a special emphasis on frogs and toads, amazing creatures that can teach us a lot about the health of the environment. Besides being an environmentalist and philanthropist, Frogs Are Green founder, Susan Newman, is an award-winning brand visibility designer whose work is represented in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. One of my very favorite things that Susan has organized is the Frogs Are Green Kids’ Art Contest. The contest is open to children, ages 3-16, everywhere, and having just celebrated its fifth year, received hundreds of entries from around the world. The entries are inspiring, beautiful, sensitive and just awesome and have renewed my faith in achieving the goal of a healthy environment. Please check out the Frogs Are Green blog and follow Frogs Are Green on Facebook where Susan posts gorgeous and often incredible (but very real) photos and facts about these amazing amphibious creatures.

Congratulations Melody on your Frogs are Green award. Quit an honor! Love your acceptance article. It’s so beautifully written. Deeply heartfelt with just the perfect touch of humor. Not an easy line for a writer to navigate but you always do it so well!
BTW love the new layout!
Harriet, I learned from the best! (And, as you know, Susan Newman’s Frogs Are Green website and Facebook page are so worth signing up for and liking, respectively. From one frog person to another. And turtle person. And owl person.) xo
Susan, Thank YOU! I always look forward to my regular dose of Frogs Are Green. And am always amazed when you post ones that are not! Your site educates, amazes and entertains me and the work you do on behalf of these little amphibians and the environment deserves to be recognized by sites much larger than EverBeautiful. Kudos to you. It’s an honor to be recognized by you. Thank you again, Melody
