CREATE YOUR OWN ORIGINAL SCENT
Several years ago, I was asked to write an article on “What Rich People Have That We Don’t.” It was a creative endeavor rather than a research piece so I allowed my imagination to go wherever it wanted. I recall that one of the things I wrote about was creating a personalized, signature scent. At the time, there were very few affordable options that helped you create your own scent.
Regular readers of EverBeautiful.com will know that, to me, scent is everything. It is evocative with the power to take me back in time, relaxes and energizes me and makes me happy. I have been known to stop people on the street to ask them what scent they’re wearing and I have even crushed flower petals in several futile attempts to capture their fragrance.
I wake up in scented sheets, shower with scented body wash, use scented powder and then finish it off with a few dabs of perfume. My favorites change, depending on my mood, the occasion and the time of year – but the contenders have been whittled down to a select few. They range from easily affordable to ridiculously crazy expensive and from single notes to complex creations of olfactory deliciousness.
One of my favorite places on earth is the Hyatt Park Vendome in Paris. It’s gorgeous and ideally located in the center of Paris – but the scent that permeates every public room and hallway is incredible. It was created exclusively for the hotel by famed perfumer Blaise Mautin and, whenever one of my friends or relatives visits Paris, I ask them to please bring me perfume, scented candles, body lotion, shampoo – anything scented – from the Park Vendome. I admit that, while there, I’d call guest services to have additional bottles of shampoo and body lotion sent up to my room which I promptly smuggled into my suitcase.
So, yes, scent is one of my passions. I’d love to create a scent of my very own, that is uniquely mine and that I comes not only in the form of perfume and other personal fragrances, but in room sprays, candles and home accents.
And, just as I was imagining my unique scent, I heard about Original Scent, a company founded by Nicole Winnaman and perfumer Sarah Horowitz, that makes it possible to customize my own fragrance wardrobe.
The company is located in Pasadena, CA but a visit to their website will allow you to take a Scent Journey and answer specific questions about your style and favorite scents. It will also pair you with a trained and certified Scent Stylist who’ll guide you through a consultation, identifying the fragrances that inspire you based on your personality, your style and even your fondest memories.
And, it’s affordable. After you create your online (or instore) Scent Profile, Original Scent will create three variations of your own original scent to choose from. If you choose one of the samples, Original Scent will send you Eau de Parfum or a Mini Pure Oil Roll On. If you aren’t in love with any of the samples, you can edit them and a personal Scent/Perfumer will set up a phone consultation to perfect your Original Scent based on your feedback. This is included in the $99.00 fee. (Shipping is extra.) Personal and home fragrance products abound on the website so, for an additional fee, you can bathe yourself and your abode in your original scent if that is your preference.
Gotta get back to filling out my Scent Profile. Let me see … favorite fragrance? Hm, dark and spicy; clean and fresh; floral? Dark and spicy. Yes, definitely.
