I have a love/hate relationship with Fashion Week. I love the excitement, the clothing, the shows. I hate the hectic schedule, what running from show to event to show does to my feet and the feeling that I won’t be able to see enough or do enough to do justice to all that is NY Fashion Week. I stress like crazy about what to wear before each show or event and then, when it’s over, I spend furious minutes making notes, going over my photos and identifying trends of the season. I love it. I hate it. It’s exhilarating. It’s exhausting. But, when you’re in your seat before the show, surrounded by the buzz of editors, photographers, bloggers, celebrities and people who love fashion, it’s magical. The second the music comes up and the first look appears on the runway, time stops and I am in the moment. I forget my schedule, my aching feet, the snow outside and the fact that this is work. It’s so much fun – and it’s over in an instant. As the lights come up, my brain returns to reality. If my schedule allows, I stop backstage to congratulate the designer and then I’m off to the next show, the next event or to meet a friend for a quick cup of coffee. And then I’m off again. It’s exhausting. It’s exhilarating and, with each and every invitation, I’m reminded of just how lucky I am to be a part of it.
