I received complimentary product from Brushcraft for this review however, that did not in any way sway my opinion about the product. To be honest, I’ve wanted Brushcraft or Artis brushes for some time now and jumped at the chance to review them. Read on for how they have changed my makeup routine …
I am Instagram-obsessed. I cannot get enough of it. My Instagram feed is filled with beautiful and/or historic photos of New York City; birds of all stripes and feathers; nature scenes; incredible architecture and interior design; fashion designers’ sketches and creations; animals, felted and real and nail polish videos that confound and impress me. It makes me so happy to check it and scroll through the images and videos. But, I confess, my very favorite things to watch are makeup tutorials. I am determined to learn to apply the perfect cat eye liner, a cut crease and to master the art of contouring and highlighting. But, you know, you can’t build a house with a hammer with a loose head.
“What,” you’re asking. “What does a hammer have to do with makeup?” Well, it’s all about the tools. The one thing these makeup videos have in common is the brushes. And the brushes are the ones by Artis, the cult-favorite-darling-of-makeup-artists-everywhere-uber-expensive-but-worth-it brushes.
Artis Brushes are revolutionary. They look like this …
And they cost a bundle.
But, Artis recently came out with a new line of more affordable brushes called Brushcraft.
They employ the same ergonomic design for perfect makeup application, even if you are all thumbs. The difference between using Brushcraft brushes and the applicators that come packaged with cosmetics or even regular, old-fashioned makeup brushes is the difference between building a house with a hammer with a loose head and one that is solid and handily up to the task.
Brushcraft by Artis is up to the task. Here’s why: By turning the fibers at a right angle, using trademarked, man-made and engineered NuFibre®, and including many more fibers in each bundle than in conventional animal hair brushes, BrushCraft improves performance and provides better makeup results every time you use them. Let’s break that down. Brushcraft brushes provide smoother, faster, more even and more targeted application than other brushes. They are comfortable to hold and because of their unique angle and the amount of fibers in each brush, my makeup is blended evenly. No more chalky deposits of foundation, hurray! The NuFibre fiber structure and tapered ends help apply product more consistently than animal hair and BrushCraft brushes have, on average, 3-10 times as many individual fibers as conventional brushes.
There are four brushes in the Brushcraft collection: BrushCraft Linear 1 has a thin row of perfectly aligned fibers so that you can create a thin line of eyeshadow or liner by gently pulling the brush across the skin. It’s great for lining eyes, or filling in and perfecting brows.
BrushCraft Circle 1R contains a fibre bundle in a cylinder shape, but with a rounded domed top at the fibre tips. The shape and size makes it great for applying eyeshadow and blending, spot concealing, focused contouring, and lip color.
BrushCraft Oval 3 is the perfect size and shape for applying eyeshadow products to the lid area. You can do an all-over application of color, or use it to emphasize the outside corners of the lid or along the upper and lower lash lines. It’s also great for applying concealer to the under eye area.
BrushCraft Oval 6 is the perfect size and shape for applying foundation, contour and blush. Pick up a small amount of product and gently sweep it across the area of the face you want to cover. This brush has more than 60,000 individual fibers in the bundle, which is a main reason it applies and blends product beautifully.
Brushcraft Brushes sell for from $18.50 to $24.50 and they are worth every penny.
MAKEUP TIPS I’VE LEARNED FROM INSTAGRAM
Add a couple drops of cosmetic oil to your foundation before applying it for a dewy and even finish. One I like: Farsali Rose Gold Elixir
Apply contour and highlights after applying foundation. Blend, blend, blend to remove harsh edges.
Don’t forget to contour your neck by using a darker shadow vertically from your chin to your collarbones. Blend, blend, blend.
To minimize a double chin, use a darker shadow around the jaw from ear to ear and under the chin. Blend well to erase harsh edges.
Moisturize your lips with a cosmetic oil before applying lipstick.
To make lips look fuller, line the underside of the bottom lip. Follow the lip line, but the underside of it. Dot highlighter to the bow of the top lip.
Play with color. Orange, in all its hues from browned to bright, and that’s in all of my big makeup palettes from Sephora, looks great on the lids, crease and under eye, especially when combined with a black liner and a coat or two of black mascara.
Sweep a metallic highlighter across the cheekbones for an evening out. This looks especially great in candlelight.
One last thing: as we age, some of us get stuck in a beauty rut. We wear our hair the same way we’ve worn it for years; we apply our makeup the same way we did when we were younger. This can be aging. Hairstyles change as do makeup trends, and I, for one, don’t want to look like I’m stuck in a particular decade. Brushcraft brushes make it fun to experiment and to apply makeup again. They make it easy to change up your routine and try a new look. Go ahead. Check out one of my favorite Insta feeds, HudaBeauty, grab a Brushcraft brush and play. And don’t forget the beautyistas on your holiday or birthday lists. Brushcraft brushes are so coveted, they’ll make a great gift for the makeup wearer in your life.

While reading this I expected them to be much more expensive! I bought two!
Hi Jill! You are going to LOVE these! If you get the chance, please let me know how you like them after you’ve had a chance to use them. I’m obsessed! xo, Melody
Hi Melody. I realize you posted this a while back but I’m hoping you see my question. The brushcraft are so much more affordable what is the main difference between them and the uber expensive original elite? Is it a huge difference in our application experience (especially with foundations)? I really hope you see this and can answer. Have a great day!
Hi Laura, I’m so glad you found my post! I will answer your question to the best of my knowledge. I have not used any other Artis brushes so therefore cannot give you a side by side comparison of one over the other. However, I did a bit of research which indicates that the regular Artis brushes, with all of their different finishes, cost more to manufacture than the Brushcraft line. Here’s another difference that makes Brushcraft that much less expensive. From the Brushcraft website: “CosmeFibre was developed and is trademarked by Artis. Only Artis brushes use CosmeFibre, which delivers highly superior makeup application performance. NuFibre is a result of the Artis fibre engineering research and provides similar performance to the original CosmeFibre, but without some of the complex attributes we use to manufacture CosmeFibre. NuFibre is a streamlined version of CosmeFibre, just like the handle design of BrushCraft. NuFibre utilizes the essence of what we developed for CosmeFibre and results in a simplified version which still out performs any conventional animal hair brush available on the market. Both NuFibre and CosmeFibre should be cleaned and cared for in the same way, and both will offer extraordinary performance.” I love my Brushcraft brushes for the easy way they apply my makeup, their sturdiness and their comfort and maneuverability. Again, I cannot do an Artis vs Brushcraft comparison but I can compare Brushcraft to less expensive lines that claim to be the same – and that look the same. Brushcraft is way superior in that they are sturdy and much better made. I like to really blend in my foundation and contouring and the Brushcraft brushes do that better than any other “regular” brushes or knockoff brushes. I hope this helps! Not sure it does. Good luck in your quest! Best regards, Melody
