For me, New York Fashion Week is not only a time to view the often beautiful and often amazing designs and trends that we can expect to see in stores in the coming months, it’s also a strong reminder of the versatility and creativity of the human mind. Year in and year out, designers create fashion presentations of upwards of 25 looks that are completely styled with accessories, hair and makeup. It takes a team but nevertheless, it’s a daunting task to not only design a collection to parade down the runway but also to style it. And, it’s not only the clothing that people talk about the next day. It’s often the hair and makeup trends that shape their industries. Ever wonder why one season it’s all about a red lip and another it’s about a heavy brow? That’s Fashion Week and the beauty trends that emerge from it. Below, some beauty looks from New York Fashion Week, Spring 2017.

The beauty look at Tome, the five year old fashion label founded by Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin, was natural with a nod to tribal. (Take a look at the photos to see exactly what I mean.) The look, created by Diane Kendal for Tata Harper Skincare was all about clean, healthy, prepped skin than about eyeliner, blush and lipstick. To get the look, which is great on its own or under whatever cosmetics you choose to apply, cleanse skin with Tata Harper Refreshing Cleanser to remove excess oil and makeup for a fresh, radiant start. Spritz the face with Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence to deliver long-lasting, oil-free moisture and minimize the appearance of pores  Apply Tata Harper Concentrated Brightening Serum to promote a visibly healthy, radiant appearance. Use Tata Harper Rebuilding Moisturizer  for balanced hydration with a smooth matte finish. Apply Tata Harper Restorative Eye Crème around the eye area to refresh and restore. Finish by applying Tata Harper Aromatic Stress Treatment to pulse points inside wrists, on temples and each side of neck. Spread over palms and inhale deeply for a luxurious, relaxing experience.

INGLOT kicked off New York Fashion Week last week, designing strong makeup looks at the Spring/Summer ’17 shows for designers Michael Costello and Orla Kiely. The season’s trends reflect an elegantly sultry, deep and edgy feminine vibe, illustrated through spice toned eyes (of varying intensity), sheened skin, brushed brows and powerful notes of berry and rose on voluminous lips, lids and cheeks.

At Michael Costello, the look was “Midnight at the Botanical Bash,” inspired by a dark garden soiree with makeup focusing on a dark berry lip with bold, bronzed glossy eyes and natural skin. Edward Cruz, lead makeup artist for INGLOT, created non-traditional, blended-out gold and berry eyes using Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #296 and #299 from INGLOT’s new What A Spice! Collection ($7 each) as the base, and layered on deep gold and berry sparkle using AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow #81 and #24 ($16 each). Cruz layered matte, cranberry Lipstick Matte #438 ($15) with AMC Lip Paint #58 ($14) to create an opaque, berry ombre lip.

At Orla Kiely, the beauty look featured soft, bohemian makeup with blended, balanced tones to complement the designer’s 1970s West Coast music festival-inspired collection. Stevie Huynh, lead makeup artist for INGLOT, used INGLOT products in unconventional ways (liquid blush on lips, blush on lids and brow gel on lashes) to achieve a uniquely cohesive, blended look. He used taupe-y contour shades, including Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #305 from INGLOT’s new What A Spice! Collection ($7), to define and sculpt the eye socket, with an emphasis on smoking out the bottom lash line. He used dark brown Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #299 ($7) to define the top lash line and  a petal rose blush, Freedom System Blush #29, to fill in the eyelid and blend into the crease, making sure that there were no hard lines. Huynh swiped INGLOT’s new Brow Shaping Mascara on lashes for understated definition. To finish the look, Huynh added AMC Liquid Face Blush #93 ($15) as color on the lips, to create a pale pink pout.
