What Will Your Skin Look Like in 20 Years?
For me, the future is bleak based on RoC Skincare’s Annual Wrinkle Ranking Forecast for the most at-risk cities for skin damage in 2040. I live in Philadelphia and Philadelphia ranked … drumroll please … ugh, Number One. Yup, Philly is the most wrinkle-prone city in the country according to RoC Skincare’s Annual Wrinkle Ranking Forecast. That ranking is based on stress and pollution levels, lengthy commute times, higher than average smoking rates and other factors, including climate, that affect skin health.
Hang on. Let me try to spin this … 2040 is a long time away and skin damage occurs every year, every month, every day. Yeah, no. No way to spin this. But wait, I could move to San Jose, the city that, due to its shorter commute times, smaller population and anticipated shift towards a wetter and therefore more complexion-friendly climate will claim the Least Wrinkle Prone title in 2040. I mean, it’s not a realistic solution to save my skin, but it’s something …
There has to be a better answer. What can we do to save our future skin?
We can start now to practice a daily healthy skin regimen which includes drinking water to hydrate from within, getting enough sleep, using sun protection every single day, all year ‘round; cleansing properly and applying good quality, effective skincare products. Yes, we can do that …
But, let’s get back to RoC Skincare’s Annual Wrinkle Ranking because you want to know how your city ranks, right? So, once again, RoC Skincare partnered with independent research firm Sperling’s Best Places to compile the 2016 Wrinkle Ranking which, as I said above, is based on factors known to affect skin health – lifestyle, occupational and environmental influences. Here ya go. Find your city …

How’d you do?
Want to know why Nashville, St. Louis and Kansas rank as they do? The smoking rate in these cities is higher than those for the rest of the country. (Want healthier skin? Quit smoking.)
It’s a no-brainer that big cities rank high. Congested commuting, lower air quality and extreme urban environments contribute to unhealthy skin. So, too, do higher temperatures combined with less precipitation. Here’s looking at you, Great Lakes area and the Northeast.
“Our skin is a canvas that reveals a lifetime of environmental influences, behavioral choices and genetics,” said architect and urban futurist Dr. Cindy Frewen. “While our lifestyle choices are reflected in our faces, there’s no need to necessarily relocate just yet – there are variables studied in the Wrinkle Ranking that are within your control – from smoking and commuting to protecting your skin with sunscreen, serums and moisturizers.”
Ok, so a move to San Jose is out but adopting healthy skin habits is in. I’ve got that covered. I drink plenty of water, cleanse my skin thoroughly, wear sunscreen (eh, I could be better at that), get enough sleep (Wait. That’s a total lie. I am an insomniac but working on it) and I use excellent skin care products! Take that, Philadelphia! I love you but I’m going to fight you tooth and nail before you make me look older than I am!
Two products to try from the extensive, gently priced and easily available RoC Skincare line include Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum and Retinol Correxion Eye Cream. I use them every day as well as RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30. (Here’s a tip about which product to apply first: Apply the lightest product first so serum, followed by moisturizer, followed by eye cream.) I also cleanse my face of all its makeup with RoC Daily Resurfacing Disks (they’re genius at cleaning and exfoliating and they make my skin feel glorious.) I also use RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream or RoC Multi Correxion 5 in 1 Restoring Night Cream if my skin looks like it could use some additional help. These are just a few of the products in the RoC Skincare line. Get them below and see the full line here.
Start practicing healthy skincare options today and maybe you won’t have to relocate either.
The lovely people at RoC Skincare also sent me this beautiful bracelet.
It’s been quite the conversation piece. Look at it closely. Those numbers are not just any random numbers that the jewelry designer thought would look cool on a bracelet. They’re actually the coordinates for the town in which I live. See? I told you – a great conversation piece. I think it would make a wonderful gift for someone who’s relocating or for anyone who loves where they live, where they go to college or loves their childhood home town.
