I love a good DIY face mask recipe, especially when the ingredients are readily available – and edible. What could be better than that? How about three DIY face mask recipes?
First up, an avocado-based DIY face mask from dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe. Avocados are full of antioxidants and fatty acids known to reduce wrinkles while the oils help hydrate dry and flaky skin. It’s the perfect antidote to dry winter weather and indoor heating.
Dr. Bowe’s DIY Avocado Face Mask
Combine ½ avocado and 2 tsp. of honey.
Mash until the ingredients are the consistency of paste.
Spread a light coat over your face and neck.
Leave on for 10 minutes and then wash off using warm water.

Next up, a sweet-smelling DIY brightening mask from YouBeauty. They’ve been kind enough to share the recipe with me so that I could share it with you. Nice! They write:
“If you’re overworked, overtired, or simply feeling a bit down on yourself, it might be a good time to engage in a bit of TLC. For a sweet-smelling pick-me-up, whip up this strawberry, sage and green tea brightening mask courtesy of The Beauty Chef for a quick complexion boost. It’s antibacterial and jam-packed with skin-clearing ingredients like sage and strawberries in order to clarify and protect collagen within the skin. The antioxidants in the green tea work to refine and reduce puffiness. Set aside ten minutes with this mask on and you’ll feel (and look) as good as new.
Ingredients:
3 strawberries
1/4 apple flesh
100ml strong green tea made using
filtered water, cooled
1 sage leaf
2 tsp citrus pectin
Method:
Infuse the sage leaves into the green tea and cover. In a blender, mix the apple with the strawberries and slowly add the citrus pectin to thicken. Cleanse and clear your skin of any makeup, and apply to your skin. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse off well.”

And finally, how about a DIY face mask that utilizes ingredients you’re likely to have on hand this holiday season? The recipe, from beauty expert and founder of eponymous line Indie Lee, is super easy. All you need are cranberries and yogurt. Cranberries have amazing anti-aging properties and will leave your skin looking refreshed.
Fun & Fruitful: Indie Lee’s DIY Simple Cranberry Mask Ingredients
1/2 cup cranberries
1/2 cup yogurt
Combine the two ingredients in a blender and transfer to a bowl.
Apply the mask and leave it on for about 20 minutes.
Rinse it off with cool water.
As previously mentioned, cranberries are great for anti-aging – they are packed with Vitamins A & C. They are also highly acidic, which makes them perfect for oily skin types. While this mask is great for your face, try Indie Lee’s Patchouli Sandalwood Moisturizing Oil to achieve smooth skin from head to toe. This potent blend decreases inflammation, evens skin tone, relieves stress, and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while leaving behind a musky scent.
Available on IndieLee.com for $36.
