On today’s schedule? A mani/pedi. It’s been weeks since I’ve had my nails done in the salon. I’ve been rocking the new Naked Manicure and loving it but an upcoming meeting calls for a more – pun alert – polished look. I don’t like gel manicures although I had them for my daughter’s bridal shower and wedding. The heat necessary to set the polish was uncomfortably warm and the process of wearing acetone-soaked cotton pads covered with aluminum foil tips to remove the polish was time-consuming and, frankly, didn’t seem that healthy. My nails are thin and soaking them in acetone cannot be a good idea under any circumstance.
So, is there such a thing as a healthy nail polish? Yes! Look for ones that are 5-Free, that is, they don’t contain formaldehyde; formaldehyde resin; DPD, or Dibutyl Phthalate; Toluene or Camphor. (Read my post on phthalates here. It’s titled, “Are Your Cosmetics Making You Fat?” Spoiler Alert: some scientists say yes – and it’s due to phthalates.) There are many polishes now available that are natural and 5-Free but I know of only one that was created by physicians.
Dr. Adam Cirlincione and Dr. William Spielfogel are New York-based board-certified practicing Podiatric Surgeons who founded Dr.’s Remedy®, a line of natural, i.e., 5-Free, nail polishes and treatments that address the appearance of dry, brittle nails. Dr.’s Remedy offers more than 30 different shades of nail color and treatments which contain the doctors’ proprietary blend of organic ingredients that includes wheat protein, tea tree oil, garlic bulb extract and Vitamins C and E, designed to improve and maintain nail health.
Here are just a few products from the Dr.’s Remedy line:
Think about it. If you’re like many women, you wear nail polish on most days of the year, Naked Manis notwithstanding. Don’t you want what you put on your nails to be free of chemicals and good for your nails? Hellz, yeah!
Check out Dr.’s Remedy. Shop on their website and here’s to healthy nails!
