Attention cat lovers.  Did you know there’s a new TV channel that has ‘round the clock coverage of all things feline? Even more important, did your cat know?  It’s called Cats 24/7 and it’s available at Pluto.TVa website that offers more than 100 channels on a range of subjects.

I discovered Pluto out of guilt. My cat is interested in most of my food choices but not my TV choices.  A recent Internet search brought me to Pluto which offers all day cat coverage, including Cats in Clothes, Cats Gone Viral and Putting up with Humans.

For those among us who are not ailurophiles (aka cat lovers) kitties are a big business.  Recent statistics show that upwards of 30 percent of American households include at least one cat for a grand national total of 75 million cats. (These figures may or may not be accurate due to differing Internet stats compounded by my mild dyslexia.)

So here’s the scoop. With an average of three TV sets in the typical American household, cats are an overlooked segment of the consumer market. But the question remains, will pussycats watch? Some doubting Toms are even asking, can they watch?  After pawing through reams of research, the answer appears to be – maybe. Seems that cats, unlike dogs, can make out what’s on the TV screen. Contrary to popular belief, however, cats are almost as color blind as their canine counterparts.  *Studies show that they don’t see red – except when another cat swipes the kitty treats or their favorite toy disappears under the refrigerator.

* (I’m trying to figure out how those studies were conducted.  “Meow once if you see the cardinal, twice if you don’t???”)

The experts have also determined that cats have short attention spans. Since attention span is based on interest, I thought I would help out with a list of suggested kitcoms and films, like … Little Mouse on the Prairie, BlueBirds (starring Tom Selleck), The West Wing, Litter House on the Prairie, The Weakest Mink, Persian to Persian, Name that Tuna, Days of Our Nine Lives, Claw and Order, Doogie Mouser, M.D. and the aforementioned Downton Tabby which I like so much, I’m using it twice.

The cat entertainment concept is really not that way out.  Kitty vids, featuring nature sounds and fast moving objects, have been around for a while. I’ve seen my cat stare at a baseball game or tennis match for at least twenty seconds.  She also likes golf tournaments, especially if Tiger Woods is playing.

From where I crouch, it looks like viewers will go wild for Cats 24/7. Purrrsonally, I’m looking forward to watching with my pet.  Good luck Pluto.TV! Abyssinia.
