A PERSONAL TRAINER ON YOUR COMPUTER? YOU BET! IT’S MyBOD WELLNESS!
Denise Posnak, dance professor, Pilates instructor and (she may hate the following description but I’m going there anyway), genius entrepreneur wants to change the way you work out. She’s the founder of what I think is one of the most innovative companies around today. It’s called MyBOD Wellness™ and what the company does is, well, before I get to that, answer the following questions, if you will.
1. Do you want to work out but want to do it in the privacy of your own home, on your own schedule?
2. Have you ever thought of hiring a personal trainer but the cost was prohibitive?
3. Have you ever tried – or wanted to try – Pilates or yoga but the classes were inconvenient, too expensive, or you were perhaps too self-conscious to want to join a class?
4. Wish you had a personal trainer to keep you motivated and on track, but for much less than the cost of a personal trainer at a gym?
5. Traveling but don’t want to miss your regular yoga or Pilates workouts?
If you answered yes to even one of the above questions, MyBOD Wellness is for you.
So, what exactly is MyBOD Wellness and how does it work?
MyBod Wellness takes full advantage of voice over internet protocol technology (VOIP) and delivers live, one-on-one personal training sessions at your convenience. Confused? Read on …
Have you ever used your computer to video chat with someone in another city? If you have, you already understand the elegant beauty of MyBOD Wellness. All you do is sign into Skype, Google+ or Facetime (which are free, by the way,) connect with Denise Posnak in her NYC studio or with any one of the expert trainers on her staff and begin your class. Doesn’t matter where in the world you’re located. You can even share classes with a friend in a different city or country.
Ok, so get this – you’re in your home in Los Angeles and have scheduled a one on one Pilates class with Denise at 4:30 in the afternoon. You’ve already got Skype downloaded on your computer. (For those who don’t know, Skype is essentially a program that allows you to see and hear the person with whom you’re connected in real time. It’s amazing and it has so many great uses. I connect with friends in Europe via Skype and was able to talk to – and see – my daughters when they studied abroad. It’s great. Here’s the link: http://www.skype.com)
Where were we? Oh yes, you are about to have a Pilates class with Denise Posnak. You change into your workout clothes, turn on your computer, log into Skype, connect with Denise (who’s live in her NYC studio; this is not a recording) and 45 minutes or so later, you’ve had a great one-on-one Pilates class with a master instructor. And, best of all, the class costs a fraction of what a Pilates class at a studio or with a private instructor at a gym costs.
But let’s say you want to work out with a friend in another city. No problem. If she has Skype installed on her computer and you and Denise on her contact list, she can join in the class for no extra charge through July 31st 2012. (Give her a series of Pilates or yoga classes as a gift or share the cost of the classes. Either way, it’s a great way to connect with faraway friends.)
I asked Denise how she teaches Pilates classes via the internet and makes it a personal, one-on-one experience. Her response: “I think that there’s a focus of energy, a presence that I bring to the interaction. I just talk to the person on the other side of the screen like I’m there. I get into that state of mind and so does my client. I create a rapport with the client and there’s a connection. We can sense each other’s energy. At the risk of sounding New Age-y, It’s kind of like this transportive energy thing. I direct them to use their hands as my hands. I direct them to move a certain way. It works.”
Personally, I can’t wait to try it.
How brilliant is Denise Posnak and MyBod Wellness? I mean, seriously?
Denise, who’s based in NYC, has been teaching Pilates via VOIP since January 2012. Her students come from all over the country and are all ages and fitness levels. Many of Denise’s students are ageless women who’ve never set foot in a gym but still receive all the benefits of one-on-one personal training.
Classes are typically 45 minutes long but, if you don’t have that much time, break up the classes into 15 minute sessions. Pricing is based on a scale – the more classes you sign up for, the lower the price per class. Check out Denise’s website for pricing here .
At the moment, MyBod Wellness has a staff of ten instructors, including Denise. Click this link to read their bios and areas of expertise.
MyBOD Wellness is amazing, right? Perfect if you don’t want to join a gym but want one on one classes for less than you’d pay at a gym; perfect if you’re traveling and don’t want to miss your regular class; perfect if you belong to a gym but can’t get there.
Ah, my work is done. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to log into Skype. I have a Pilates class with Denise in fifteen minutes and I don’t want to miss a second of it.

Yup, I always like to be as close to the instructor as possible too. With MyBOD Wellness, crowds are not an issue. It’s one-on-one personal training with each class so YOU are the focus. Such a great idea! Thanks for your comment, as always! xxo
