Remember Dr. Scholl’s? They’re Still Cool!
Remember your first pair of Dr. Scholl’s exercise sandals? I sure do. I was in high school on a shopping trip with my best friend. My first pair of Dr. Scholl’s were navy blue; hers were red and we couldn’t wait to wear them. The “breaking in” period of a pair of Dr. Scholl’s exercise sandals was legendary. But once your foot got used to gripping the little bump on the wood footpad under your toes, they became the most comfortable shoes on earth. They were cool, in an irreverent sort of way with their nail heads and square buckle. I had them in every color and they lasted forever. I’m sure I have a pair of wooden Dr. Scholl’s somewhere in my closet.
Dr. Scholl’s still sells the classic exercise sandal, although the wooden sole has been replaced by a kinder, gentler flexible “solid unit” one. And while I think the little bump has gone the way of rotary phones and non-cable TV, their elegant simplicity still appeals.
Yup, Dr. Scholl’s footwear is still around and has expanded to include many more styles than the classic exercise sandal. Nautical striped wedges, fun floral flats and office-appropriate sandals, all under $100.00, make up the newest collection. (I’ve got my eye on the striped navy slingbacks. Love them with all of the season’s denim looks.)
