Winter weather wreaks havoc on my already sensitive skin. Despite the abnormally mild weathers we’ve experienced in my area this winter, indoor heating and dry outdoor air have conspired to make my skin flaky, itchy and uncomfortable. I guess you could say I’m uncomfortable in my own skin! But I’ve found something that helps. It’s Aromatic Body Butter from Minus 417 Dead Sea Cosmetics.
Unfamiliar with Minus 417 Dead Sea Cosmetics? So was I, that is, before I received a gift bag from a company representative that included several products from this line of anti-aging, body-pampering spa products. And now I’m hooked.
My first reaction was – it’s kind of a weird name. How do you say it? How do you write it? Is it Minus 417? Or -417? And why did they chose that name anyway? Ah, there’s a method to their madness. The Dead Sea is located on the lowest point of the earth – 417 meters below sea level. The company’s name has been accepted as an international brand symbolizing the exact location below sea level of the Dead Sea at the time of the company’s founding in 2003. Minus 417’s line of products is based on natural active components and minerals from the Dead Sea. (This little bit of knowledge appeals to me more than you know. I hope it appeals to you too.) The Dead Sea contains the highest concentration of minerals in the world and its clay layers contain high concentrations of natural elements that include magnesium, calcium, potassium and others that are essential to maintaining healthy, supple skin. Of course, people come from all over the world to float in the salty waters of the Dead Sea and to coat their bodies with the therapeutic mud from its banks.
On to the products …
The Aromatic Body Peeling contains microscopic grains of Dead Sea salt which exfoliate and smooth my skin. Dead Sea Salt is also thought to encourage skin rejuvenation and reduce signs of aging. I’m good with that. I must frankly confess that I’m not a huge fan of body peels. I find them painful (sensitive skin, remember?) Well, I’m totally into Minus 417’s line of body peels which leave my skin feeling invigorated and moisturized. I use it once a week, perhaps twice if my skin is really dry. (Just be sure to wipe down the shower floor after use. The moisturizing oils in the product can leave the shower floor a little slick.) The Aromatic Body Butter is, in a word, luscious. It melts into my skin and leaves it soft, smooth and glowing. Minus 417 Body Butter is enriched with Shea butter which contains a high level of fatty acid and vitamins E and F to nourish and rejuvenate skin. Shea butter is also said to naturally protect skin from UV radiation, improve muscle stiffness and stimulate cellular activity to help fight some of the effects of aging. It’s thought to be far superior to cocoa butter and other vegetable butters and, from what I’ve been reading, is what I want in my body lotion. Minus 417 Body Butter also contains sweet almond oil, avocado oil and mango extract for extra moisturizing. I love it. It makes me feel as if I’ve been to an expensive spa for an equally expensive body treatment. I received Minus 417 Body Butter in the company’s “Ocean” fragrance. It’s delicious and long lasting and I can still catch faint whiffs of it even though I applied it hours ago. Yet, it’s not so overwhelming that it will compete with my perfume. Other fragrances include Lavender, Milk & Honey and Kiwi & Mango. The product retails for $38.
Minus 714 is not just about body creams and scrubs, however. They have a line of anti-aging facial products that are, in a word, amazing. Their Recovery A Cream – Time Control is based on a “high concentration of retinol (Vitamin A) that plays an essential role in the appearance of skin, [its] growth and development.” The product also contains collagen and a specially formulated vitamin mineral complex to prevent moisture loss and help keep skin firm. I’ve been using it for only a couple of days now, so it’s too early to see results – but I can feel them. My skin is definitely smoother; my foundation goes on more evenly and the product doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. All good. Time Control Recovery A Cream retails for $86.
I just started using Miracle Immediate Wrinkle Filler which is said to create a lifting effect instantly that increases with use. It contains essential oils such as borage, avocado and evening primrose as well as the company’s Vitamin Mineral Complex and Dead Sea mud. I like the way it eases my laugh lines, which, admittedly are not deep, but still … I’m going to continue to use the product, which retails for $117., in the hopes that my laugh lines won’t get any deeper!
All Minus 417 products are paraben and mineral oil free and come with an expiration date, a unique thing that I think should be on all cosmetics, especially those with “active ingredients.”
