“Any ideas for revving up my holiday-weary skin? I don’t want to spend a lot of money since the New Year’s Eve party was at my house this year and I went a little overboard on champagne,” writes Susannah from Austin, TX.

Thanks for writing, Susannah, and Happy New Year. Hope you had a fantastic celebration. If you have any leftover champagne from the party, use it as a toner, suggests Marina Peredo, MD, founder of Spatique Medical Spa, Smithtown, NY. Champagne detoxifies the skin with antioxidants; tartaric acid helps even out the skin tone.  For those with oily skin, champagne’s antibacterial properties aid in leaving last year’s breakouts behind.

How to use champagne as a toner? After washing your face, soak a cotton ball with left-over champagne and wipe all over face, neck and décolleté.  Be careful around the eyes … this is alcohol after all!  Let the champagne fully absorb into skin; leaving it will help to close pores, making the skin tight, firm, and glowing.

**Please note, people with very sensitive or dry skin, should do a patch test on a small non-visible area.

And if you happen to have any leftover caviar from the party (which would never be the case in my house) use it as a face mask. Caviar is rich in amino acids, phospholipids and is full of vitamins A, D, B1, B 2 and B6. Because the structure of caviar is similar to human skin cells, it has the ability to speed up the skin’s natural production of collagen.  Whether you gulp it down or slather it on your face, the benefits can help you achieve a youthful appearance by firming, smoothing and rejuvenating skin.

To make a caviar mask, simply apply the left-overs all over the face, neck and décolleté.  After 30 minutes, rinse off with lukewarm water; skin is left hydrated and renewed.

Cheers to the New Year and your fabulous left-over finds for your face!
