While beauty writers adore free product, what we adore even more are products that actually do what they promise.
According to the Commerce Department, in 2010, Americans spent $33.3 billion on cosmetics and other beauty products. Of that money, I wonder how much was spent on products that didn’t work. We’ve all heard that the beauty industry is as much about “selling the dream” as it is about producing products that actually do what they purport but I’d rather have the latter any day. I’ll create my own dreams. Just give me an eye cream that moisturizes, protects and reduces the appearance of fine lines; a volumizer that really makes my hair look and feel fuller and a mascara that really makes my eyelashes look longer and thicker.
Which brings me to Murad® Skin Perfecting Primer. I received two free samples from a company representative to review; one in a matte finish, the other in a dewy finish, but let me digress for a second. Dr. Murad is a legendary name in skincare. A board-certified dermatologist and trained pharmacist, Dr. Murad was a pioneer in the thought that the skin, our largest organ, is reflective of our general health. He is a respected researcher, professor and author and is known as the Father of Internal Skincare. Think about that for a second. Don’t you just love the imagery?
I reached first for the Primer in the matte finish. Both formulations can be applied over toner and moisturizer and under foundation or they can be worn alone. The claim is that the Primer minimizes pores and evens skin texture and tone. It also utilizes Adaptive Shade Technology to perfectly match any skin tone. The very first thing I found with this product is that a little goes a long way. It gives great coverage but doesn’t look heavy. I applied a little bit too much the first time I used it, but just wiped away the excess with a tissue. The Adaptive Shade Technology toned down my terribly ruddy skin and the product gave me a smooth finish upon which to apply foundation. I prefer to not wear foundation in the summer and this product evens my skin tone and gives it a lovely matte finish against which I like to play up my eyes and lips. The takeaway? It’s a product that does what it says it’s going to do for my skin.
I am so enamored of the matte version, I’ve worn it every day since I got it. But I had to try the dewy version too – even if it was just for the purpose of reporting back to you.
The dewy finish gives me skin that captures and reflects the light in the most flattering way. I’ve always preferred a matte finish to a dewy one, but this product has me rethinking that opinion.
I did apply foundation on top of both finishes – just for the sake of this review – (I’ll start wearing it again, come Fall) and found that foundation seemed a little bit redundant. I really didn’t need it, although it didn’t drag when I applied it over the Primer and it didn’t cake or look heavy.
Congratulations to Dr. Murad for creating a product that really works. I’ll buy Murad Skin Perfecting Primer once my samples run out, and, I’ll check out the other products too.
Murad Skin Perfecting Primer sells for $35. for 1.0 fluid oz and you can buy it by visiting Dr. Murad’s website at: http://www.murad.com.
So love when products do what they claim to do!! Glad this work well!!
OMG, I know! This one is a keeper. Love both formulations and the fact that I don’t need foundation. It’s expensive, but a little covers a lot so it’s def worth the price. xo, Mel
