Blue Hair on the Runway for Spring 2012

One of the hottest hair trends for spring is true blue hair color. Blue locks were spotted on the runways of Thakoon, Narciso Rodriguez and Jean Paul Gaultier, to say nothing of some fashion forward actresses and pop stars. (I’m talking about you, Katy Perry.)

Streekers, Pink Streekers, OrangeHair Streekers, Blue

Want to try the trend without making a commitment to blue hair dye? Check out Streekers, a new temporary hair color that’s applied with a sponge applicator. Streekers bonds to the hair and won’t rub or flake off, yet it washes out with shampoo. (Blonde hair may require 2 or 3 washings.)

I’m thinking about adding a streak of blue hair color to my hair. Or pink. Or better still, bright orange to capture spring’s hottest color.  Just a hint of orange peeping out on one lock of hair …

Streekers are available on their website for $11.95 each and come in a variety of colors.

TouchBack Hair Color for Gray Roots

And, while you’re on the site, if covering gray between touchups is your goal, check out TouchBack. It’s real hair color in a marker that delivers an even flow of liquid color continuously to cover gray roots instantly, $29.95.

I’m weighing the possibilities … covering grays or rocking a bold streak of hair color. Oh, I’m torn between two worlds.

  1. For myself find hard to do but it takes a creative individual to carry true blue. Will keep my eyes open and report if I see 50 somethings prancing this way.

  2. Thanks for your response, Rose. Just a little hint, a little peek of color. (And, it’s temporary.) I keep thinking of Betsy Johnson as an EverBeautiful.com woman who sports color. Hers is dramatic, to be sure. And she’s creative, to be sure. But she wouldn’t be Betsy Johnson without her signature hair. I’m contemplating it. The more I think of it, the more I think a deep blue would be least obtrusive on my dark brown locks. Might be a good way to test the water.

  3. I think this is a great idea, and I’ve always wanted colorful hair. I’ve done it a few times on Halloween. One memorable year I used blue Kool Aid to make my hair a nice shade. But I found out how acidic Kool Aid is when it burned my scalp, and I had to rinse it out until you could barely see the color anymore. I would love matching a streak of hair color to my outfit. I don’t see any age issue with this particular idea. I think we gotta keep having fun and enjoying colors ‘for the duration’, as they say in my family. I think you should try BOTH the orange and the blue, on different days (although I bet a lot of people in Syracuse do ’em on the same day 🙂

  4. Hi Ingrid! So nice to hear from you – and thank you for commenting. Blue Kool Aid! That is a creative choice. Sorry it turned out the way it did. You get points for being innovative, for sure. I’m with you completely on how to wear hair color. I don’t think age should be a factor – regardless of whether the color was inspired by the rainbow or a more natural hair color. While I wouldn’t do a whole head of blue, pink or orange hair – I’d love a colorful lock peeking out from the underside of my natural hair. By the way, congrats to Syracuse on yesterday’s NCAA win. (They did win, right? Over Wisconsin?) Good to hear from you!
