Kicking off NY’s Bridal Fashion Week, Dennis Basso, luxe designer extraordinaire and beloved QVC designerwhose faux fur outerwear enrobes and flatters thousands of women, unveiled his premiere bridal gown collection for Kleinfeld at the store’s Chelsea, NYC location Wednesday.
And what a collection it was! The dresses, with silhouettes from the most form-fitting to the most extravagant ball gowns, were treated with the finest details: Venice lace, tulle, intricate crystal beading and, of course, fur. White ruled the runway although a touch of color – black! – showed up to encircle a waist.
The first look took my breath away. A hand-beaded and embroidered ivory sheath looked and moved beautifully as it came down the runway – but when the model turned around, oh! The skirt, which had a detachable train, was enhanced by a huge taffeta bow. The entire effect was breathtaking and, I would imagine, would fulfill the dreams of how every girl wants to look on her wedding day. (I am sorry but I don’t have a photo of that particular look. I will upload one if I get ahold of one.)
Dennis Basso’s bridal collection, while based on the tradition of the classic bride, is modern and extremely fashionable. Off the shoulder looks, couture folds and pleating, lace sleeves and pockets – yes, some of the gowns have pockets! – take the traditional bride and place her squarely on the red carpet. Back detailing including open work lace, elegant trains, covered buttons from here to there and incredibly beautiful beading and hand embroidery play a huge part in the collection. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Dennis Basso collection without fur which appeared as a Russian Broadtail bolero adorned with handmade mink flowers. I wanted a closer look …
As the models made their last turns on the runway and Dennis took his bows to enthusiastic applause and cheers, all I could think about was wanting to renew my own wedding vows in one of Dennis’s beautiful creations.
