Never heard of it. Is that a new term? What is it?
Celebrity Cellulite.
Ohhh, ok. So, I’m supposed to think that’s not a good thing, right? I’ll bite. Who has it?
Well, bunches of famous women, if a glance at the tabloids in the supermarket – or closer look at the magazines in the nail salon – are any indication.
So, what’s the big deal?
Well, celebrities resent being scrutinized every time they walk the red carpet, hit the beach, pool or gym or just walk down the street. This video is Lisa Ann Walter’s satirical response to the media coverage of celebrities and the glee in which it reports on their sometimes lumpy rear ends.
Yeah, but they’re celebrities. Isn’t that part of the deal about being famous?
Some might say so, especially paparazzi, tabloid magazine publishers and producers of tabloid format TV shows. But there’s something bigger at work here, in my opinion anyway.
Oh yeah? Like what?
The entire way in which female celebrities are covered – especially when they’re uncovered – is demeaning to all women. Lots of women have cellulite. Some scientists say it’s an aspect of being a female. Hey, I’m all for looking the best I can, but I don’t want to be distilled down to nothing more than my appearance. Female celebrities – and all women by extension – should be considered for their accomplishments, intellects, personalities, talents, and abilities, rather than for the lumps on their thighs.
