A new study finds that women are at their most beautiful at the age of 31, according to an online article in an issue of Express.co.uk. The survey also finds that 31 is the age when women are at their most confident.
Are they kidding?
Researchers queried 2000 people about their opinions on beauty and style. When asked to define beauty, more than two-thirds of respondents rated confidence over good looks.
It’s studies like these that undermine the confidence of women who may feel it’s all downhill once they pass the “magically beautiful” age of 31. EverBeautiful.com is here to tell them that’s a bunch of crap.
While I’m all for the confidence quotient and its impact on appearance, I loudly object to determining an age in a woman’s life when beauty peaks. It’s my undying belief that women are as beautiful as they feel – regardless of age. That is, as readers of EverBeautiful.com know, the purpose of this blog – to alleviate society of its misconception that beauty is reserved only for young women. I know many women who are older than 31 and who look better now than they did at that age. Yeah, I write about cosmetic surgery, wrinkle creams and Botox. For many women, these procedures and products help them feel better about themselves and impart confidence. It’s not about recapturing the looks you had when you were 31. It’s about being happy with the way you look today – and the way you’ll look tomorrow.
For many women, in fact, confidence increases with experience and, yup, age.
In the meantime, if you’re 32 or older, don’t let anyone tell you that your days of being beautiful are over. (And, if you’re under 31, don’t let anyone tell you that your most beautiful days are yet to come.) Whoever said “beauty fades” was wrong. Beauty changes – and society has to change its perception of who is beautiful along with that fact.
