I haven’t done this type of post in a while and because I’m all about sharing information on tried (by me) and true products that work, it’s about time for another. So, bashing on, here you go, my favorite beauty products, in no particular order …
Color WOW Root Cover Up – The amazing powder in this little container not only covers grey roots, if you’re a blonde, it covers dark regrowth. It’s available in seven colors, including two blonde shades, and it works. It works! I also use it to “disguise” my thinning part. It gives the illusion of fuller hair! I won’t be without this little compact. In fact, I keep it in my handbag and carry it with me everywhere. I’ve tried many other root coverups. None is as good as this one. Get it here …
Bumble and Bumble Bb Thickening Full Form Mousse – I apply this rich foam to my damp hair before I blow dry to lift and hold my style. It’s particularly fabulous on those days when my hair is as limp as a wilted flower because it imparts fullness. Get it here …
CATWALK Bodifying Spray by TIGI – Hm, I’m beginning to notice a theme here. I do buy a lot of products to help my flat, limp hair. But this one and the BB Thickening Mousse above are the only ones that made it to this list, so that’s saying something. I have, in fact, used them in conjunction with one another for a double whammy of fullness but each is great on its own. CATWALK is a spray that’s applied to damp hair. This stuff is amazing and I never fail to receive compliments on my “thick hair” when I use it. People think I’ve just stepped out of the salon! I don’t know how it works but it gives my hair body, fullness and texture (no more soft “cottony” hair!) Frankly, I’m terrified of being without this stuff and make sure I have some on hand at all times. (Maybe the TIGI people will see this and send me samples. That would be lovely!) Get it here …
RoC Skincare – I first experienced RoC Skincare several years ago when a couple of their products were included in a gift bag I received at a beauty event. The line is extensive, luxurious yet affordable and, because it works, has been a beauty staple for many women since it was first introduced in Paris in 1957. RoC is credited with pioneering the use of retinol to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and, I am proud to say that I am a RoC Skincare Ambassador. (At this point I am required to say that I receive complimentary product from RoC but let me assure you, I’d buy the products anyway. I have in the past and will continue to do so after my association with the brand is over – which I hope won’t be for some time!) I’ve also gotta tell you that my opinions about RoC are not swayed by the fact that I receive product. Ok, now that the business part of this post is over, here are a few of my favorite RoC Skincare products: RoC Deep Wrinkle Serum – I can actually feel this stuff working. It tingles, not in an annoying way, but in a pleasant, just enough way to let me know it’s doing its thing to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. RoC Instant Line Corrector – Isn’t it nice when you receive immediate results from a beauty product? Such is the case with RoC Instant Line Corrector. I’ve used other line correctors in the past and every single one of them has ended up in the trash. They are too thick, leave a pasty residue or unattractive little white balls of product on my skin. Yuck! But RoC’s Instant Line Corrector goes on smoothly, fills in surface wrinkles and leaves my skin looking smoother. It works great under makeup or even alone. It’s a keeper, EBers. One more from RoC (there are so many, believe me): RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream – Again, I am not a fan of eye creams. I find them too thick, too goopy. They get in my eyes and I can’t see clearly for hours. It’s impossible to apply makeup over them. Eye creams are perhaps my least favorite beauty product. Not so, RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream. It is light and disappears into my skin quickly. It does not leave a greasy residue so makeup application is easy. Get the RoC products mentioned above here:
Murad Body Products – Murad’s new line of body products is … everything. Now that skin-baring weather is here, I am loving Murad Firming Peptide Body Treatment. This luxurious moisturizer is loaded with peptides and leaves your skin soft and glowing. The scent is divine but won’t compete with your perfume. I’m hooked. I also live for Murad Detoxifying White Clay Body Cleanser. Can’t get enough of it. I use it in the shower when I want to feel pampered which, let’s face it, is every day. It turns my mundane shower into a spa experience and, again, the scent is heavenly. (Dr. Murad, I think you should consider creating a perfume or body spray, because you nailed it with these products.) Get the Murad products mentioned above here:
Estee Lauder Pure Colour Eye Shadow Palette – I have several of these palettes and each of them is beautiful. The colors are rich, long-wearing and versatile. I always find different ways to mix and match the colors in these palettes. Makeup should be fun as well as as being flattering, right? Estee Lauder is known as a luxury brand and the colors in my various palettes are so saturated they are certainly luxurious. I cannot stand eye shadows that look great in the compact but don’t impart color on my eyelids. It’s frustrating and in the trash they go. Not so, my Estee Lauder Pure Colour Shadow Palettes. The colors are true and beautiful and every single shade in every single palette I have is completely wearable. (You know how it is. Often, in a palette of five colors, only three are wearable. That’s not the case with Estee Lauder Pure Colour Eye Shadow Palettes.) Plus, it’s Estee Lauder, arbiters of beauty so their colors are always on trend and timeless at the same time. Amazing. Get it at EsteeLauder.com
Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick – I’ve been wearing Black Honey since I was 16 years old. To say it’s a staple in my beauty arsenal is an understatement. This particular shade is universally flattering. I’m a case in point. It looks amazing no matter the season, my level of tan (real in years past; faux in recent years) and through the various stages of aging. (Lips lose color as we age and this lipstick has worked for me for decades.) I keep a stick of Black Honey in my handbags so I’m never without and in my cosmetics case as well. I wear it almost every day. Get it here:
Chanel Glossimer – I love a bit of shine on my lips and will layer this beautiful gloss over my Clinique Black Honey but it’s also gorgeous on its own. It comes in a myriad of colors, each of them beautiful. I often give this gloss as a gift. It’s Chanel – and it is fabulous. Get it here:
Maybelline Volum Express The Colossal Mascara – This is my can’t-live-without-must-have-at-all-times mascara. It’s never gloppy and gives lasting and thorough coverage with only one coat although two are awesome. It doesn’t flake, doesn’t fade towards the end of the day or night, removes easily and, well, it’s perfect. I am a mascara geek and this has been a favorite of mine for years. Get it here:
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara – I never thought I’d be unfaithful to my beloved Maybelline Volum Express The Colossal Mascara but I received a free sample of Benefit They’re Real! Mascara a few months ago and it is amazing. One coat makes my lashes look longer, thicker and glossier. It pains me to be disloyal to Maybelline but I am. Of course, I found that if you combine the two, it’s killer. I get the look of false eyelashes without the aggravation of having to wear them. The name, They’re Real!, is appropriate. Get it here …
Royal and Langnickel Makeup Brushes – I am all thumbs and, because of that, put them to good use by applying my makeup with my fingers. That is, until I received a set of Royal and Langnickel makeup brushes as a gift. They are so beautiful, I love to look at them – and they are so easy to use, I don’t know why I put off using makeup brushes for all these years. Makeup application is more precise and more polished and professional with makeup brushes – and the ones by Royal and Langnickel are just gorgeous. Get them here:
Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner – Not a beauty product but one that should be a staple in the household. Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner cleans and refreshes clothes, outerwear, comforters, pillows, stuffed animals and I could go on and on, in your dryer. That’s right. Save time and money by reducing trips to the dry cleaner. Dryel is easy to use. Simply put the items to be cleaned in the bag that comes in the starter kit, add one of the ULTRAcleaning cloths to the bag, zip the bag and throw it in the dryer. If you want to refresh your clothing, set your dryer to work for 15 minutes. For a deeper clean, time the dryer for 30 minutes. That’s it! Dryel won’t shrink or fade your clothing and it doesn’t contain harsh chemicals, a great benefit for allergic me. And, fun fact, Dryel is used to clean the wardrobes on the set of The Good Wife. Read my exclusive interview with Dan Lawson, costume designer for The Good Wife for his take on personal style, fashion and more. And yes, regular EBers will know that I am a Blog Ambassador for Dryel At-Home Cleaning for which I receive product and compensation. But, you know what? I love this product and would use it regardless of my association with the company. I store my out-of-season clothing in large trash bags in my attic. Not sure this is the best way to do it, but it works for me. I just switched my closets over from winter to spring and used Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner to refresh every article of clothing I had sitting in those bags for all those months. It got the mustiness out and left everything fresh and newly laundered. I saved bundles on dry cleaning! Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaner is not a beauty product, per se, but it makes me feel beautiful.
