Aside from shampoo and conditioner I don’t often use hair product – at least I didn’t until I received a fabulous package of products from Kerastase that included Forme Fatale, Mousse Bouffant, Lift Vertige, Spray a Porter and Laque Dentelle.
There is nothing like opening your front door to find a big box of complimentary products. Who, after all, doesn’t like receiving gifts? And, as you may expect, we beauty writers get lots of product. (NOT complaining. It’s one of the wonderful perqs of our job.) Much of it is used once or twice and then ends up on our closet shelves only to be discarded or given away to friends when we need to make room for more product. But not my Kerastase products! No, no, no, no no! I have tried every one of them, multiple times and I, who only uses hair product when someone else does my hair, like at the salon, am hooked. (I’ve even brought my Kerastase products to the salon for my stylist to use on my hair. My salon does carry Kerastase products but not yet the ones I received.)
And now I am hooked. I won’t go a day without using something from my Kerastase goodie bag. My hair changes with the seasons – it’s terribly limp and flat in the winter and becomes a mass of frizz in the summer and Kerastase has a product for all my hair’s moods …
HAIR HELP FROM KERASTASE
Forme Fatale – Emulsify this blow dry gel into hands and apply to clean, damp hair from mid-lengths to ends. Comb through for even distribution. Tousle hair until it’s 80% dry and then section the top, sides and back. Using a medium round brush, blow dry in an outward motion to enhance hair’s body. Forme Fatale shapes hair to give all-over, lasting volume.
Mousse Bouffante – Apply Mousse Bouffante to clean, damp hair from roots to ends. Comb through for even distribution. Tousle dry hair until it’s mostly dry and then, beginning at the top, use a medium round brush to dry horizontal sections in an up and back motion. Set the curl with a duck bill clip. Continue this for the entire head. Once curls have completely cooled, take out pins and brush from the underneath, enhancing fullness with a bristle finishing brush. Allow hair to part naturally and drape to the sides. Mousse Bouffante adds fullness and structure to hair without adding weight.
Lift Vertige – Emulsify Lift Vertige into hands and apply onto wet hair, from roots to mid-lengths. Comb through to distribute. Tousle dry the hair in an upward motion until hair is about 80% dry. Section the hair top, sides and back and then, using a medium round brush, blow dry the hair in an upward motion. At the top, blow dry hair up and back. When hair is dry, softly back comb the top, crown and side areas. Lightly smooth over with a bristle finishing brush. Lift Vertige provides instant and long-lasting volume and lift at the roots.
Spray a Porter – To create beachy-waves without stickiness, apply Spray a Porter to clean damp hair from the roots to the ends. Use your hands to scrunch the waves. Allow hair to air dry or diffuse on low-velocity/medium heat. For additional texture, spray another layer of Spray a Porter onto dry hair.
Laque Dentelle – Get the look of soft waves with Laque Dentelle. Begin with blow dried hair and section top, sides and back. Spray smaller subsections with Laque Dentelle and curl with a 1 1/4″ iron for soft hold. When hair is completely curled, brush through gently with a bristle finishing brush. Laque Dentelle sets your style in place so spray a little more of the product after hair has been styled.
I am horrible with my hair. My idea of styling it is to flip my head over and blow dry with a round brush from the roots to the ends. That’s it. But I’ve been able to follow the above tips and the results are fabulous, if I do say so myself.

I flip my head over and blow dry too! I love Biolage Shampoo and Conditioner. My hair seems to like it and I also love the scent of the product. I’ll check out the Keratase product line when I finish up with the Biolage I have!
Thanks for all the suggestions!!
As a self proclaimed hair product junkie, I found this info very interesting. I’m always looking for ways to control this unruly frizz-prone hair and I’ve had success with other Kerastase products. Bring on the summer and humidity….I’m preparing for battle!! Thanks for good info as always!
I am so NOT a hair product junkie. (Talk to me about skin care and cosmetics and I’m in.) But I’d all but given up on making my hair look good, except for salon days. It’s just so fine and limp, flyaway in winter and frizzy in the summer. But I just love the Kerastase products and will definitely be replenishing my supply when I run out. xo, Mel
I haven’t tried Biolage but will look into it for shampoo and conditioner. Until I tried the Kerastase products, I rarely used after-shampoo/conditioner products on my hair. I did like another brand’s thickening serum, but it’s been long discontinued and I have not found a suitable replacement – until Kerastase. And, because my hair is such a barometer of the weather, I use different products depending on the day and my hair’s needs. I have to say that it totally works for me. xo, Mel
