FRAGRANCE FROM THE VENERABLE KRIGLER NEW YORK CITY
When I was much younger, in middle or early high school, my beloved Aunt Sarah bought me a compact filled with several solid perfumes. There was ylang ylang, hyacinth, lavender and jasmine and I loved to mix them on my wrists in various combinations. I rarely wore them solo but, when I did, my favorite was jasmine. I had completely forgotten about that lovely little compact until about half an hour ago when I applied Juicy Jasmine 30 from the perfume house Krigler New York City to my wrists.
Fragrance is a time machine. The instant I opened the sample of Juicy Jasmine 30, images of my Aunt Sarah flooded my brain and I was transported to a happy place in my memory, a place filled with parties, pretty dresses, boyfriends, bouquets of flowers and boats. (I can’t explain the boats, except that I grew up on the water and boats figured prominently in my teenage years.) I am enjoying inhaling this fragrance. It’s heady and reminds me of the scent of hothouse flowers. It’s complex with jasmine being the overriding scent, but there’s something else. A quick look at the Krigler New York City website informs me that Juicy Jasmine 30 is a combination of the purest jasmine flowers with the “fruity tang of orange blossoms.” Hyacinth, lily of the valley, ylang ylang and gaiac wood round out the fragrance, give it its sparkle and make it both classic and modern at the same time.
Juicy Jasmine 30, despite its rather flighty and numeric name, is an explosion of fragrance. It’s not overpowering at all – but it’s not shy either. It announces your presence and lingers in the air after you’re gone to remind people that you were there. It’s quite heavenly and I thank the company for sending me a complimentary sample.
So, a bit about Krigler. The company was founded in 1904 by perfumer Albert Krigler who created perfumes from the finest ingredients from around the world. By the 1920s, Albert Krigler had a devout following that included celebrities and royals. In 1931, the House of Krigler expanded their European base and began to sell fragrance at New York City’s renowned Plaza Hotel. World War II brought a change to Krigler and it established itself as a French-American company with a largely American clientele. In the 1960s and 70s, Albert Krigler’s great-granddaughter opened her own atelier and the company continued to sell its collection of handmade fragrances. In 2008, Krigler reopened its doors at The Plaza Hotel. (I will make certain to stop by the next time I’m in New York.)
A deeper look at the Krigler website shows the breadth of their fragrance collection which includes perfumes, candles, soaps, bath and body and skin care products. Some of the perfumes in the collection include Pleasure Gardenia 79, Subtle Orchid 10 and Dolce Tuberose 43. There are many more, for men and women, and the site includes all the pertinent information you need to know about each fragrance.
I rarely walk out the door without wearing fragrance. I have my favorites for each season, different occasions and I even wear fragrance to bed. But describing fragrance is difficult. It’s such a personal choice. And fragrance, especially one distilled from pure flowers, as in the case of those produced by Krigler, are expensive. Kudos then to Krigler for offering samples of their handmade fragrances, body and skin care products for you to try before you buy. From their website: There is a flat fee between $7.50 and $12.50 per sample depending on the type of scent it is. We do not charge for shipping . Your samples are prepared upon order, hand made and are decanted into 1 ml vials and labeled with the name.”
It’s now six hours after I first dabbed my wrists with Krigler Juicy Jasmine 30 but the fragrance is still apparent – and gorgeous. I adore it.
Treat yourself or a beloved family member or friend to a divine Krigler fragrance by visiting their website. And, if you’re in New York City, stop by Krigler New York City at The Shops at The Plaza, 1 West 58th Street. I have a feeling, I’ll be there often.

Thanks for your comment, Jill. I love this fragrance and will definitely try the other scents from Krigler too. If you’re in the NYC area, you can visit their shop at the Plaza Hotel and try the fragrances there. But, if not, Krigler makes it easy and practical to try their fragrances with their generous samples which you can order online. Very smart. Let me know if you get one (or several) and what you think of them. Thanks again for reading and commenting. If you haven’t done so, please subscribe to the site so you’ll always get updates.
