DIY Ombre Manicure

Ombre Manicure, EverBeautiful.com

Me, DIY? Not a chance – but I’ve seen so many DIY ombre manicure photos lately, I thought I’d give it a try.  It was so much easier than I thought it would be and I love the results. Can’t wait to try it with other color combinations.

Here are the steps I took:

1. Prepare nails – remove old polish, push back cuticles, file and shape nails as you like.

2.  Apply a base coat.  I used Dazzle Dry because I have no patience and it’s really quick drying.

3.  Decide on the colors you want to use. I wanted to try a glitzy jewelry look so chose Borghese Rapido in Lira and 3D Silver Glitter Special Effects from Nails, Inc. which I got at Sephora a while ago. I’ve seen the DIY ombre manicure in pretty pastel combos, edgy contrasting combos and everything in between. I honestly haven’t seen it done with glitter, but, hey, I love glitz so why not give it a try?  I used two colors but you can use three or perhaps four, especially if your nails are long. The process is the same no matter how many colors you use.

4. Using a dense makeup wedge, apply a swath of polish to the sponge. Then, use whichever color you want to be on top and apply it above and slightly overlapping the first swath of color.  Position the sponge over your nail and gentle press it onto the nail. Warning: it may be a bit messy around the cuticles so cleanup will be necessary.

5. Continue this step for each nail.

6. Allow to dry, apply topcoat and clean up stray polish with a cotton swab and nail polish remover.

Voila!  A DIY Ombre Manicure!

Try it yourself and let me know how it worked out. Leave a comment in the Comments Section below with the colors you used.
