SJP Nails It at The Met Costume Ball

I received quite a lot of emails asking about the recently held Met Ball. The Met Costume Ball is the gala that kicks off the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The gala is hosted by Vogue Magazine and, as would be expected, is the year’s hottest fashion ticket. There is a fashion theme each year that ties in with the exhibit and attendees dress accordingly. Last year’s theme was an homage to the designs by and inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli and Prada. This year the theme was Punk: Chaos to Couture.

Images of Kim Kardashian in a floral Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy design – perhaps (and unfortunately so, imo) the most popular visual of the entire event – are all over the internet. In previous years, rumors swirled that KK had been banned from attending the Met Ball by Anna Wintour herself. Fashion insiders say it’s Kim’s relationship with Kanye West and Tisci that gained her a much coveted ticket this year. However, the apparent/imagined/completely-unimportant-and-I-don’t-know-why-I’m-writing-about-it feud supposedly rages on as evidenced by this image from Vogue Magazine’s online gallery of best dressed attendees. KK has been cropped out but you can see just a sliver of her dress.

Kanye West was named to the Met Ball’s Best Dressed List by Vogue Magazine. But where’s Kim? Oh.

And, check out this short video from LifeMinute.TV.

Who’s on your Best Dressed List? And, share please … What do you think of KK’s dress?

Looking forward to your comments …

  1. loved SJP’s glam punk look!! There were many awesome non punk looks but the laugh & gag award goes to the couch covered KK- I mean what is she thinking?? “I will wear butt-ugly stuff this pregnancy so I am in the press” or what??

  2. I loved SJP’s look too. So glamorous and fantastic. As for KK, I don’t have the words. Riccardo Tisci’s designs are beautiful and he works wonders with prints. I’m thinking the dress debacle has more to do with KK than with Tisci. It’s kind of a shame that she got all the press too, what with so many beautiful gowns on display. Far be it from me to speak for Anna Wintour, but I bet she wished that KK had just stayed home. Love your comments! xo, Mel

  3. so many are “supporting” KK and saying media is bashing her since she gained weight {picking on a pregnant woman}- aka calling her fat, I see it as lots of bad fashion choices that make her look like a whale or worse and that would be the same whether she is pregnant or not in the clothes . I mean really- sheer stripe mini dress? , a 1/2 black 1/2 white box sheath dress?? and the list goes on!! I agree with the great Anna- KK & family are not fashion icons or lifestyle idols for sure- just tabloid media whores! If I had a daughter they {and the Lohans & Hiltons to name a few} would be the examples of what not to be like!

  4. But seriously, Debra, tell me how you really feel. Lol! I agree, def not a lifestyle icon. She is beautiful. Can’t take that away from her. I will say that she’s true to her style, seven months pregnant or not, and I guess that’s a good thing.
